Great Performance, But One Major Design Flaw

I generally enjoy my GE front loader washing machine and haven't had any performance issues. However, I am giving it a low rating due to a major design flaw. Draining the water from the front spout every month is a messy, inconvenient nuisance. The design is completely user-UNfriendly. GE should add a small, detachable drain hose to this compartment so users can cleanly empty the water into a pan and easily clear out trapped lint or loose coins. This single flaw heavily impacts an otherwise good product.

Control Board 'burned out' by drain pump

Control Board cannot handle slight changes in resistance (and current) to the drain pump. Replacing both parts (at high prices), even though the 'bad' drain pump works fine with a 120-VAC wall plug connection. I have no confidence that the replacement pump and control board will not 'fail' again in the same way. I wish I had bought a different brand.

Same issue as most everyone else. Bought on Oct.4th. 2023. Broke down in Nov. 2025, inverter board,had it fixed Broke down again in May 2026, inverter board and main board, had it fixed. Broke down again in July 2026, main board, inverter, and pump, no longer fixable. Not even three years old. Feeling robbed.

GE Going Downhill

I am not happy at all that the detergent does not stay in the detergent compartment but leaks out as soon as you put it in. This did not happen on my previous washer. If I mistakenly do not get the door closed all the way, the soap leaks out onto the floor before I can shut the door. It negates the prewash cycle as the prewash liquid and the regular dispenser both go into the washer at the same time. Also, half the time the fabric softener leaks out even if it is not filled up to the full line. GE sent out a technician and he said that the new washers do this. Unbeliveable!

Unreliable washer & non-existent customer service

This washer has broken after just two years- no longer functioning and the door is actually locked shut with a load of laundry inside. GE customer service first hung up on me when I called to inquire about repair service and then when I did get through and spoke to a supervisor I was promptly shut down when asking them to stand by their product, just two years old at this point. But in a flat un-empathetic voice Kendra simply repeated the company line about the 1 year deadline asked me when I'd like to set up service, with a standard$114 fee just to look at the washer. Not impressed with the service or the product. Last time I buy from GE. I recommend you stay away- looks like there are a lot of issues with both the door lock and the control board if you search online.

I paid close to $1000 for this washer and worked for about 2 and a half years and then the inverter board goes out. $200 part I replaced myself but the point being products aren™€™t quality anymore. After doing research apparently a common problem on these machines.

I've owned an LG and Samsung front-load set over the past 6 years, needless to say I have been very disappointed with both. We purchased the GE set and over the past 4 weeks we have been very happy with the GE's performance, capacity and performance of the washer, and the easy features it displays for use. It also sits a little higher on the pedestal which makes it easier for us to remove the clothes from the washer without having to bend down and reach into the back of the drum! So far, so good!!

DO NOT BUY this JUNK. This washer went bad within two years of very normal use (frequency: One load per week and ocassionaly twice). I spent 875 USD for this washer and it stopped working in two years. For the amount spent, if a washer goes bad that quickly then it is an engineering disastrous product. One year warranty will not help when GE develops these disastrous products. It is of no use and now I need to spend close to 500 to get this fixed. If there is a possibility to give zero, I would have given it without any doubt. While I am trying to find fixes for the washer issue, I came to know this is notoriously bad for the MainControlBoard Issues. I wish I had known it earlier. Go buy LG which is a leader in Washer&Dryer community.

Worst Purchase Ever

This machine has to be one of the worst purchases of my life. Purchased on 11/18/23. Was doing a wash and at the end of the wash went to put the clothes in the dryer. However, the door would not unlock and open. Was unable to trouble shoot it myself I had to have a tech come out ($149) Said I would need a new board. That would be another $690 to fix and would take a week to get, meanwhile I have a machine full of wet clothes that I'm unable to get out because the door won't open. Repairman said he could open it, but that would require breaking the door lock and he'd have to charge me to fix that. I tried the GE help line/ Bodewell and they couldn't give me any answers or provide any assistance. I would absolutely NOT recommend and would never buy this machine again.

I have been a GE customer for years- mainly because what I have been buying has been quality. This is no longer the case with the brand. We bought a washer in 2024, and the washer suddenly stopped draining water. Apparently, after reading the recent reviews this is a fairly common occurrence around this time frame. GE stated to reach out to customer service- and of course since it is right out of factory warranty they will not assist in the repair unless we pay a 115-150 trip charge, and also any parts and labor. I have had a number of washers and appliances in my lifetime and have never seen one have an issue within such a short time frame. Such a complete disappointment on not only the machine but the handling of what appears to be a known and common occurrence. I will not be buying GE in the future.

I would look at buying a different washer. I have had this washer for 3 years and now the control board has gone bad. Estimates to replace it are about $500-$1000 dollars which is crazy considering I spent $1000 on the washer just 3 years ago. Looking at other reviews and other sites, this seems to be a common issue with this model. Instead of putting a recall on the part it seems to just be up to the owner to replace a faulty part.

Follow-up: with-in a week of the below posting and a few back and forth emails ending with a phone call, the issue was resolved. Although we fixed the issue ourselves thanks to a handy husband and YouTube, GE reimbursed us for the parts purchased and extended a year warranty for no cost. I feel, that although we had a major issue in a short period of time, GE supported the consumer. It would be nice to have an ™€œescalation™€ contact that the initial customer service could provide in lieu of having to post a review. I purchased a GE washer 13 months ago- literally St. Patty™€™s Day, 2025. One month past the manufacturer™€™s warranty, the pump broke and circuit board fried. Our children are grown and out of the house so it was not like I do 4 loads a day all week long. Seriously- it™€™s a little over a year old and as far as I know, washers are not disposable appliances. Since I did not purchase an extended warranty, neither GE or Lowe™€™s customer service will offer any assistance. To repair this 13 month old washer would cost more than it did to buy it in the first place. To be fair- I never purchase the extended warranties. One- I have never had an issues that my husband could not fix and two- any issue that there was happened beyond 5 years. If this washer was older, I would be like- that is on me. I am so disappointed in this product. It was actually recommended to me by the Lowe™€™s salesperson. I then did my our research and did not find any overt red flags. (Apparently I didn™€™t not look long enough). Still so disappointed- (did I say that already) that a major issue at 13 months and i am basically told tough beans. That is such poor customer service from both companies for a major appliance that is basically new. I would be more apt to think that I got a defective appliance right from the get go. I will never buy a GE washer again. Bring back the Kenmore of the olden days when it functioned like the day I first got it after 17 years- not one problem- other than aesthetic wear.

Bad customer service, broken after a year!

Bad customer service, broken after a year! Bought this machine less than 2 years ago and we've been dealing with repairs for over a month without a washer. Washer got locked with clothes inside and was full of water. Repair company recommended through GE has not been able to find the issue after 3 visits and their trying another part. Within a year and a half of use the pump broke, and we need a new pump harness (which is apparently backordered). Technically this isn't the motor so GE won't help. Avoid this machine unless you want endless headaches!

Disintegrating gasket within two weeks of having

Within two weeks of having this brand new washer, the gasket started disintegrating, ruining a whole load of laundry and requiring to call to schedule a repair. I told the company on the phone that the gasket needed to be replaced, the repairman showed up without the gasket, noting he needed to order the part which would then add on another week of not having a functional washer. They also noted that they do no compensation if we needed to use the laundromat or any kind of compensation for the inconvenience of their faulty product - all I got on the phone was ™€œI™€™m sorry™€ and that this is their company policy. Very disappointed all around. Would not recommend.

Love the microbial features

The spin cycle does not adequately spin dry an average size load on normal spin setting. I have to set it on the max setting for the clothes to not come out so damp/soaked. I like the microbial protection features the most because our last washer (Samsung) turned nasty within a short time and I finally had enough of looking at it.

Broken in three years from new.

The main board simply broke at the three year mark. These are apparently known as board eaters for a reason. Of course it cost me more than half of the initial cost to get it repaired after only three years from new. It™€™s almost as if the designers wanted it to break right after the warranty coverage. Then they sold me extra coverage for the next time it breaks. It™€™ll cost me over 2k all said and done just to get the thing to work long term. GE is not what it was, just like all the other crap out there these days. Very disappointed with GE. Used to be a dependable brand. Don™€™t waste your time and money on these machines. It™€™s all scam to keep taking your money.

I have had this washer for barely 3 years. I got it late 2023. It worked fine for about 2 years, then suddenly it starts struggling to drain. I can't wash anything heavier than a sweater now without having issues where the washer won't drain. Then I have to open the drain plug on the front, to drain it manually, and remove some clothes hopping it will get through a full cycle. When it does try to drain, it makes a bunch of clicking sounds like it is struggling. I called Costco where I bought it from, but they said the store warranty is 2 years. When I called I was about 3 months past that. They couldn't care less and said call GE. I called a technician, but he was going to charge 135 dollars just to come out. I asked about the 10 year limited warranty and he laughed saying that only covered the motor for the spinning. So I guess pumps and other electronics we are just on our own. Estimated repairs would have cost close to a new unit. I will never buy another GE appliance and I don't recommend anyone else does. It's unacceptable to have a washer fail this soon and have next to zero support for it. Basically if the unit has an issue, your going to pay near the cost of a new one to get it resolved.

I Love the color and features!

Love my new GE Energy Star Washer. The Front load design is easier to get the items in and out of it. Definitely use's less water to wash than my old washer and it has separate reservoir that holds detergent, liquid fabric softener and bleach so it gets distributed evenly and also gives you the option to sanitize your wash. With the 4.8 cu. ft. Capacity, I™€™m able to do 2-3 regular loads at one time, which helps get it done quicker. If you want to pre soak it™€™s got that option and you also can start or stop the washing machine with the smartphone option. I Love the dark metallic blue color too, it™€™s a refreshing color. Definitely enjoying my new GE Energy Star Washer. Also has UltraFreshVent System with OdorBlock these are great options too. It was worth the wait to get.

Terrible machine have owned it for 1.5 years and seems that the main control boards are a constant issue. And I can™€™t even repair it without it being the cost of a brand new one . How sad that this is seems to be a normal way of dealing with customers

Warranty Issue and Replacement

We had to get a warranty replacement, where we had the old gray from April 2021. We were happy with our GE washer up until one of the three arms holding the horizontal tumbler/drum broke. The g e sent technician said he never saw it on the model we had and quoted us just over 1300.00 dollars for just a repair. Allstate /Home Depot 5 year warranty allowed us a new washer instead of a repair. Just installed tonight 02/14/2026 Valentines Day with another 5 year warranty.

The washer ran well until a month ago. The door wouldn't open. I contacted GE support and was advised that the techs in this area perform only warranty work. So, I was unable to schedule a repair appointment. I have now had two different techs who have come to my home a total of 4 times. They contacted GE support but were still unable to open the washer door.

It was a great washer till after 7 months it started squeeking loudly when starting to spin and sometimes while spinning. The squeek is coming from the front and it is loud.

Drain pump went out after 9 months and after 2 years 2 months the lock mechanism/control board fried and even smoked and is not reparable so even with an extended warranty I™€™m out of pocket bc the price has went up on these in just the past few years. Made cheap :(

We had this washer/dryer set delivered from Home Depot on March 7, 2024 and have had horrible experiences ever since. The first two dryer deliveries almost started our house on fire but since we caught it immediately, they were replaced. The third one we received seemed to work okay. Wrong. The dryer has to be ran multiple times to dry the clothes completely even after cleaning out the filter and vent. The washer stopped draining/spinning completely this week. We cleaned out the hose and filter and even replaced the pump and it still does not drain/spin. Such a waste of money.

Purchased this washer 7/13/2025 and the drain pump seems to be dead. Wouldn™€™t recommend this washer to anyone. The crappy warranty is so vague, staying away from all GE products in the future.

I purchased this product two years ago November 2023. I was super excited. I foolishly did not purchase the extended warranty (I™€™ve never had a washing machine break down before the ten year mark). November 2025 my washing machine broke down. It stopped draining the water and would not start. We went to Lowe™€™s but of course they couldn™€™t do anything because the warranty had expired. They did however help us contact GE and GE did agree that it was still under warranty for parts and as a courtesy they would provide labor but we had to use their service personnel. We agreed and after about a week he made it to our house but GE had put on the service order that it was a dryer so there was nothing he could do and he left. So we called back and they gave us another ticket number and we waited another week or so and he came back. He told us the motherboard was bad and ordered the part. About two weeks later he came back, replaced the part and it still didn™€™t work. So he called whoever he needed to call at GE and they told him what to do. He ran a test and eleven error codes came up. He ended up having to replace the motherboard again, the motor and drain pump. Guess what, it will fill up with water, act like it™€™s working and then shut off without draining the water. So once again after waiting almost three weeks for the parts the last time. We call GE back again. They refuse to replace the washer because it™€™s out of warranty. But will send a new technician in another week to look at it. I™€™ve been without a washer for over two months at this point. I Can™€™t afford to just go out and purchase another one. GE customer service haven™€™t been super friendly or helpful. I absolutely would not buy any of their products unless you want to repair or replace them in less than two years. If you do purchase one be sure to buy the extended warranty or you will be out of luck. What happened to companies standing by their products and building products that last?

If I could give it less than 1 star I would. Right under the 1 year mark the locking mechanism stopped working, it was replaced and 6 months later it happened again. Entire main computer board was replaced. Now here we are 6 months later and it won™€™t drain. At what point does GE admit I have a complete dud and replace it. Every. 6. Months. It takes a dump. Even after the cycle says it™€™s done, and the door is open, it will all sudden kick on again.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK And look at the reviews. Most are written with a month of buying the machine. Look at the older reviews. That tells the story. We've had our washing machine since April of 2024. Today it wouldn't start. Ran through diagnostics and these are the error codes! 92,89,27, 19, 38, 26,08, 39. WOW . No power surges, very light use, as there are only two of us. You must clean the machine often due to odor. I don't see how the Ultrafresh vent system can be effective, when it only runs for a minute or so. After talking to an online service person we were advised to get a different washing machine. The error codes could mean any or all of the boards are bad. Seems to be a theme. Look at other recent reviews.

It gets stuck on lock with water not draining!!!! And this thing doesn't even have a drain and spin like my old whirlpool did. Didn't even have this a year and half and broke!!! Garbage!! Says 10 year Warranty on washer doesn't mean it is. Liars! Looks like its common problem should have a recall but of course GE acts like it's not their problem. Absolute JUNK!!

Love the Style and Capacity, Hate the Repairs...

The capacity is great for this washing machine. You can nearly do 3 loads to the normal size of a load so that has not been an issue with this machine. You can connect to this machine without too much of an issue, but and can connect it into most of the standard home devices. However, you will be looped back into a very detailed repair regiment if you have any issues. Do not go outside of the standards or the warrantee will be lost. That is important because there WILL BE ISSUES. I will just list my breakdown issues under "EFFICIENCY". I know that is not quite what they meant by that word, but i would say it is not an efficient machine if it is broken down. I have now had it for 18 months and have had 2 failures that have been complete breakdowns. That being said, we do not overwork our machine and we do not do anything that would overtask it to cause undue harm to the machine. We did get the extended warrantee so that saved our hide when it came to the repairs, but if not, it would have had to be replaced 100% days after it went out of the 1-year warranty. I would have been really upset and hollered and screamed. instead, they replaced the computer in the washer for over $600 for no cost and went away. SO BUYER BEWARE. You will love it while you have it, but expect some repair time and plan for it with an extended warranty. Here is a bit of a trick for you.... If you do not want to buy a pricey extended warranty, just wait till a breakdown happens and then call and extend your warranty for several years (but call for a repair FIRST or they will charge you full price plus the repair). Just a bit of a trick that can work for someone that chatted with me that did a purchase at Lowes. Overalll a good product, but some bumps in the road.

This Washington machine has been a life changer. We upraded From a 3.2 ft washer to the 4.8 and it is great for our family Of 4. We just throw an entire hamper full of clothes in- amazing. The ventilation feature is key- we hope this keeps the gaskets and barrel from getting musty. So far, so good. Highly recommend.
